TADCASTER ALBION bosses Michael Morton and Simon Collins were pleased with last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Colwyn Bay in Evo-Stik North.

The Brewers rescued a point through a late Josh Barrett goal in tough north Welsh weather conditions to stay a place above their opponents on goal difference.

Morton said: “It was a tough encounter, as we expected. They came flying out of the blocks, pressing us all over the pitch.

“I thought we stuck to the game plan quite well.

“It was against gale force winds. It was like having an extra player.”

Collins agreed with this assessment: “I said that we just need to get to half-time nil-nil with the conditions like this – I think they scored straight after that.

“We said to the boys at half-time, we’ve come in in a good position. It would’ve been really good if we’d have been nil-nil. We just need to keep patient in the second half and keep plugging away.”

After the break, Albion had the wind with them and were able to use the ‘extra man’ to their advantage.

Collins said: “We knew we’d be able to pin them in a little bit with the wind, and we managed to do that.”

Overall, the managers feel their side deserved the draw.

Collins admitted: “I’m a bit biased, but I think we probably slightly edged the better chances.”

Morton said: “If you look at the stats, they had a lot of territory in the first half, but they had three shots the whole game. We probably had six or seven.

“We had chance after chance, and got the goal in the end with Josh.

“I’m just delighted for the lads, because they worked hard.

“I’m not fussed how it came, it’s in the back of the net and it’s a cheeky draw.

“There’s not going to be many teams that come here and get a point.”

Tomorrow, Tadcaster host third-bottom Skelmersdale United, who have won only once in their last 12 games.

Tomorrow, Pickering Town are at home in the first round of the FA Vase to Northern League division one Newcastle Benfield.

The Pikes will be looking to bounce back from last week’s Northern Counties East League premier 4-2 loss at Thackley, while Benfield will be hoping to build on their 5-1 League Cup win at Crook Town.

Northern Counties East League division one table-toppers Knaresborough Town travel to premier division Garforth Town in the FA Vase.

Knaresborough’s only loss in their last 19 fixtures came at Evo-Stik premier high-flyers Farsley Celtic.

12th-placed Garforth have struggled for form of late, their September winning run halted by two draws and a loss.

The premier division’s Harrogate Railway Athletic travel to Sunderland Ryhope Colliery Welfare in the first round of the FA Vase.

Railway are second bottom in the premier division following a run of five league losses that has seen them ship 22 goals.

Ryhope are 10th in the Northern League division one, winning their last game 3-1 at Bishop Auckland, but shipped seven the match before at Whitley Bay.

Harrogate Town, who sit top of the National League North, welcome 18th-placed Leamington in the league.

Town gave up a one-goal lead as they were knocked out of the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup last week at home to Gainsborough Trinity.

A late comeback from Leamington secured them a 2-2 draw at home to York City.
