ACOMB Men I defeated a battling Airedale II side 2-1 to extend their unbeaten run in Yorkshire League division two.

The visitors looked the more threatening in the early exchanges, with the Tangerines struggling to put together a spell of possession, but were continually thwarted by fine saves from keeper Craig Brown.

As Acomb took control of the game, their numerous efforts on goal were eventually rewarded 10 minutes from the break as a James Tindall shot flew past the visiting keeper.

After a disjointed second period, Dave Richardson doubled the hosts’ lead six minutes from time with a deft reverse-stick flick.

There was enough time for the visitors to get a deserved goal back, but Acomb held on to stay in third place and within touching distance of the top of the table.

Acomb Men II's top-of-the-table clash in division five north at Thirsk & Malton finished all square at 3-3.

The visiting side were a goal to the good inside the first minute, Ben Kerry passing to Anthony Daley to slot into a nearly empty net.

Thirsk had a good few attempts on goal which were denied by keeper Richard Crossland, but they got the equaliser around the 20-minute mark from a penalty corner.

On the stroke of half-time, Tom Brown restored Acomb’s lead.

Both sides were quick off the mark in the second period. Thirsk equalised, and then Daley hit home his second goals to regain the Tangerines' slender edge.

The attacking from the two sides continued, and the hosts levelled from a last-minute penalty corner.

Acomb Ladies ran out deserved 5-3 winners at Northallerton I to leapfrog their hosts at the top of the Yorkshire League division one table.

Northallerton took an early lead after a strong start, and could have doubled their advantage but for some fine defensive work from Wendy Watson and Jane Elsworth.

The Tangerines were looking to play on the break and were twice rewarded through Jenna Allison, who was set up both times by captain Kerry Woods.

A two-goal lead was established 12 minutes into the second half as Allison completed her hat-trick.

Northallerton then scored twice in seven minutes to level matters, keeper Sam Storr unable to reach either of the efforts.

The strong midfield of Georgi Wood, Rachel Robertson, Eva Coulson and Becky Flower helped Acomb regain control as the fixture took another turn.

Youngster Kiera Woods scored from close range to put the visitors back in control, and Hannah Yoward secured the points, sweeping in a loose ball.
