THACKLEY stunned leaders Pickering Town in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

The Dennyboys won 4-2 to hand the Pikes their first league defeat of the campaign, which also cost them pole position, Pontefract Collieries taking over at the top with a vastly superior goal difference, as well as having two games in hand.

Player-coach Ryan Blott had given the visitors a third-minute lead but Dan Broadbent struck twice in a four-minute spell late in the first half.

Joe Hughes made it 3-1 and Matt Broadley scored the home side’s fourth before Joe Danby snatched a late consolation.

Fraser Lancaster equalised in the 13th minute for Harrogate Railway Athletic at Penistone Church, but that was as good as it got for The Rail, who lost 6-1 and dropped a place to second from bottom.

On target for the hosts were Kieran Ryan (3), Brett Lovell (2) and Andrew Ring.

Selby Town also slipped a spot to seventh in Division One after a 4-0 defeat at Grimsby Borough, who climbed from third to second.

Marksmen for Borough, who didn't score until the 43rd minute, were Ben Sibbick, Josh Morrall, Dan Trott and Jack Debnam.

Knaresborough Town extended their advantage at the top from eight points to nine after a 2-0 home victory over Dronfield Town, courtesy of Ben Parkes and Gregg Anderson.

Meanwhile, Harrogate Town again fell at the fourth qualifying round stage of the Emirates FA Cup.

A combination of fitness, team spirit and some heroic defending was enough to give visitors Gainsborough Trinity, who trail leaders Town in the Vanarama National League North by 21 points and 20 places, a 2-1 victory.

Josh Falkingham, who was captain for the day, gave the home side the lead in the first half, but they succumbed to goals by Nathan Jarman, seconds after the second half had begun, and Michael Jacklin.
