CHAMPIONS Coneysthorpe 'A's grip on the York and District Table Tennis League division one may be on the wain early in the new season.

The team have lost key players over the summer and, despite an unbeaten effort from stalwart star Martin Lowe, they went down 7-3 to stablemates Coneysthorpe 'B' in the second game of term.

Jonny Wooldridge and Joe Wright were on top form as new outfit Topspin York registered their first-ever win, thrashing Clarence 'A' 9-1.

York RI 'B' edged a close encounter with York RI 'C' 6-4 thanks to braces from Mikey Arnold and Jeff Cohen. RI 'C’s Mick Wilcoxon was the man of the match with a treble.

In the second division, a maximum haul from Alfie Potter was the highlight as Clarence 'B' defeated Clarence 'C' 7-3, and a treble from Ian Williams made the difference as Shepherds 'A' defeated Poppleton by the same margin.

An unbeaten effort from Lewis Harrison allowed York RI 'E' to share the spoils in a competitive 5-5 draw against Strensall 'A'. Simon Prins played well for the villagers, defeating both Ady McClaren and Tim Smith.

York RI 'D' beat York RI 'F' 7-3 with Mark Blackburn untroubled, and Ian Hilton was the star as Bootham 'B' defeated Ryedale@RI by the same margin.

Wigginton & Haxby 'A' continued their strong start in division three with a 7-3 victory over Strensall 'B', John McLaughlin on top form.

A fine treble from Michal Slezak was not enough to prevent South Bank 'B' losing 6-4 to Clarence 'D', while Shepherds 'B' had Paul Kozyra to thank as they defeated Clarence CIU 7-3.

A treble from Dave Simpson allowed BT 'A' to register an 8-2 victory over Clarence 'E' for whom Russ Scott was unlucky to only emerge with a single victory against Howard Broadbent. Despite an excellent performance from the rapidly improving Arthur Sorley, York RI 'G' defeated York RI 'H' 6-4.

Wigginton & Haxby 'B' have started division four with back-to-back wins after they whitewashed Clarence 'G' 10-0.
