A DEPLETED Acomb men's first team survived a thrilling encounter with Wakefield III to emerge 5-3 winners.

Two goals each for Pete Hilton and Tom Brown made it two wins out of two in Yorkshire League division one for the Tangerines.

The home side opened the scoring through Hilton, but two goals in three minutes from the visitors turned the game on its head.

Jonny Brown struck to level up the scores going into half-time.

Five minutes after the break, the visitors deservedly took the lead again, and looked the team the more likely to add to their total.

However, a resurgent Acomb side piled the pressure on their hosts and Tom Brown equalised with his first goal of the game. Five minutes later, Hilton put them in front from close range.

Stu Baxter maintained a steady ship at sweeper, and Acomb secured the points with 10 minutes remaining via a Tom Brown penalty corner strike.

Acomb II held on against City of York VIII to secure a 2-1 victory over their cross-city rivals.

The hosts started the stronger, and took the lead on 10 minutes through Tom Brown’s low penalty corner flick.

The Tangerines had much of the possession in the contest, although York did press at times and Craig Brown was needed to make a fine save to deny them an equaliser.

The visiting keeper made a good save to deny Andrew Jarmin, but could do nothing about Richard Luscombe's second-half reverse stick shot that doubled the home side’s advantage.

Seven minutes from time, Chris Allerton netted for York to set up a nervy finish, but Acomb held strong.
