TWO York Minster Engineering League reserve 'A' sides were knocked out of the Reserve Cup by lower league opposition as the competition got underway.

Poppleton United shocked Church Fenton 5-2 with goals from Kieran Blondrage (2), Joe Schofield, Niall Kirby and Alan Boyd, while a Sam Thompson hat-trick earned reserve 'B' Osbaldwick a draw at home to Pocklington Town 3rds, Osso going through 5-4 on penalties.

Easingwold Town produced arguably the performance of the round, knocking out holders Huntington Rovers 3-1 after a hard-fought battle.

Lee Johnson and Matthew Fishburn (2) got their goals, with Kieran Flanagan coming off the bench to hit Rovers' reply.

Cliffe also dispatched higher league opposition as four-goal Reece Stronarch led the scoring in a 7-3 triumph over Dringhouses. Callum Petch, Alex Hartley and Ben Whelan also hit the target.

There were no such giant-killing acts for Haxby Town and Brooklyn. Haxby were undone by an own goal and a Corey Littlefield strike as they lost 2-0 at Thorpe United. Brooklyn crashed 9-0 at Wigginton, Kain Rogerson bagging four goals with Tom Coates, Terry Taylor, John Cavanagh, Steve Jarvis and Craig Harrison also finding the net.

Tockwith and Heworth needed a shoot-out to decide their tie following a 1-1 draw, Tockwith triumphing 6-5.

Tadcaster Magnets edged Bishopthorpe 1-0, as did Old Malton St Mary's against neighbours Malton & Norton.

Kieran Nelson bagged a hat-trick for Civil Service in their 6-1 win over Fulford, John Mackenzie, Kayle Sercombe and an own goal also finding the target.

Glyn Welsby got Harrison Signs' consolation in a 4-1 defeat at F1 Racing. Jamie Rank and Dean Gledhill netted for Stamford Bridge but they lost 3-2 to Hemingbrough.

Goals by Lewis Chipchase (2), Danny Wood, Chris Haigh and Morgan Cooley saw York RI cruise past Malt Shovel 5-0.
