YORK City have been drawn away to Evo-Stik North league leaders South Shields in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Minstermen are due to visit Shields’ Mariners Park ground, which has a 3,500 capacity, on Saturday, September 30 to take on a team that also lifted last season’s FA Vase in the Wembley curtain-raiser to the FA Trophy final that saw Gary Mills’ men beat Macclesfield 3-2 later on Non-League Finals Day.

Shields defeated Cleethorpes 4-0 under the world-famous arch and reached this stage of the Cup by winning 3-0 at City’s National League North rivals Darlington in front of 600 travelling fans at the weekend.

The Mariners had already won 2-0 at Witton Albion in the competition, following a 3-1 preliminary round triumph over Bridlington in front of 1,420 supporters.

Included among their ranks is former Sunderland and Middlesbrough midfielder Julio Arca, who captains the team having made more than a combined 350 appearances for the north-east giants, including seven seasons of Premier League football.

Along with the 36-year-old, ex-Argentina under-20 international, one-time City loan striker Jon Shaw, who is now 33, also plays at the back for Shields.

Former Aston Villa, Blackburn and Leicester midfielder Graham Fenton, meanwhile, has managed the team for the last year.

City’s under-18 team will host Harrogate Town, meanwhile, tomorrow night in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup.

Kick-off is 7.45pm at Bootham Crescent.
