WIGGINTON Grasshoppers continue to top the York Minster Engineering League premier division table after putting five goals past sixth-placed Copmanthorpe without reply.

Luke Addison smashed a left footed drive home after 12 minutes and Eddy Clapham looped a header into the net six minutes later after being found by a pin-point cross from Pat Evans.

Clapham turned provider on the half-hour mark with Jordan Holt nodding in his corner from close range.

The second half was a different affair as Copmanthorpe got a foothold in the game and almost came back into it early on, Michael Clancy tipping a Paul Hodgeson strike around the post.

However, after missed chances at both ends, it was Wiggy who found the target with Matt Tiplady curling an effort home from 25 yards.

A neat one-two between the striker and Jake Duckworth then resulted in the latter, directing the ball home to round off the win and seal the points for the home side.

Huntington Rovers continued their 100 per cent start to the season after a fiery encounter with Osbaldwick.

Chris Dyson fired home from 20 yards to give Huntington the lead midway through the first period and Osso’s task was made increasingly difficult when they were reduced to ten men minutes later following Myron Turbine’s dismissal.

The second period saw Rovers assert themselves and the hosts’ frustration grew throughout the half, evidenced by two more of their players seeing red for the accumulation of two yellow cards each late in the game.

Huntington had earlier increased their lead when substitute Lee Bunce latched onto a Dyson through ball to slot home, before George Brown made it 3-0, cutting in to slide home a Jon James pass.

Man-of-the-match Dyson completed the scoring to round off a comprehensive 4-0 triumph.

Dunnington sit third after a 3-0 win over Hemingbrough United.

Tom Anderson put the icing on a well-worked team goal to give them the lead before Angus Richardson and Will Pepper added to the score line.

Sporting Knavesmire returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 defeat of local rivals Poppleton United.

George Wilson and Sam Lingard combined to give the visitors a two-goal lead at the interval, before Tom Owen and Danny Owers bagged the rest of their haul.

Old Malton St Mary’s moved up to fifth after a 5-1 defeat of neighbours Malton & Norton. Church Fenton and Tadcaster Magnets shared the spoils after a 2-2 draw.

Toby Willis and Matthew Howgate netted for Magnets.

A further derby game saw York RI and Dringhouses unable to gain an upper hand as they played out a goalless stalemate.
