Leaders Yorkshire Academy looked to have their match at Weetwood under control when three wickets late in the innings from skipper Jordan Thompson (4-26) helped bowl out Driffield Town for 179, Afaq Rahim being the stand-out performer for the visitors with 87.

But then the home side collapsed to 98-5, and it took the steadying influence of Bilal Anjum (87no) to guide them to a four-wicket win.

York looked set to miss out on the chance of full points until Tom Pringle (5-45) took all but one of the six wickets that fell in the final ten overs of Hull's innings as they were bowled out for 191, a total in which both Andrew Simpson (49) and Dave Barrick (42) both came close to a half-century.

The hosts began with an opening partnership of 114 between Tom Friend (77) and Duncan Snell (34), who became the first batsman to pass 1000 runs for the season, and, despite their departure, York wrapped up a fifth straight win with more than 20 overs to spare.

That laid the platform for Josh Atkinson to boost the total to 274-5 with an unbeaten 60.

Tom Neal was the pick of the visiting attack with 3-60 but his effort was surpassed by Kallen Bond, who took 3-45 as the visitors came within three balls of what would have been a valuable two points, Matthew Dale being the top scorer with 43 in a total of 198 all out.
