NUNEATON Town will visit York City having only scored one goal in their opening four games.

That effort was a 92nd-minute winner against last term’s National League North runners-up Kidderminster by ex-Minsterman Ashley Chambers, who has started all four of the Warwickshire outfit’s opening fixtures.

Chambers’ goal earned fourth-bottom Town their only points so far of the season with their first two road trips ending in fruitless defeat at top-two Brackley (1-0) and Harrogate (4-0).

Only bottom team North Ferriby, who are yet to score, have been more goal shy, meanwhile, during the division’s first fortnight.

City will also be meeting a much-changed line up from the team that hosted them last term in the FA Trophy when Amari Morgan-Smith, Vadaine Oliver and Sean Newton goals sealed victory within the opening 20 minutes.

Only one player – on-loan Peterborough midfielder Jordan Nicholson – started that game and Tuesday night’s loss at Brackley.

Along with Chambers, former Leicester striker and Corby Town boss Tommy Wright, who has been in charge since last November, added Dan Brenan from Hednesford, Niall Heaton from Alfreton, Courtney and Luther Wildin, Ryan Beswick from Solihull, Alex Henshall from Braintree, Brady Hickey and Callum Ball from Barwell and Luke Trotman from Luton to his ranks over the summer in a major overhaul of the squad that finished last term mid-table in 12th.

Skipper and last season’s Player of the Year Kelvin Langmead – the former Northampton and Shrewsbury centre-back – is yet to feature this term.

Chambers, who ended last season on loan at Nuneaton from Grimsby, was a hero of the double Wembley-winning 2011/12 City squad, scoring the equaliser in the 2-1 play-off final win over Luton

On the prospect of returning to Bootham Crescent, Chambers told the Nuneaton News: “My time at the club was so special for me.

“Gary Mills took me there and I loved it. I do hold the place, not just the club, in the highest of regard.

“I never thought, if I ended up playing at this level, I would be doing so against York. They are a huge club and one who should be so much higher.

“For me it will be a special occasion, though, however they ended up here. I will look forward to it – and, whatever my memories are of the club, hopefully Nuneaton can come away with all three points.”
