TOLLERTON and Rufforth are closing in on the two promotion places in division five of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

Josh Hunt and Ed Hope won 30 games to keep Tollerton at the top with a win against Fulford, and Rob Proudley and Helen McDonald won their final rubber 10-2 to keep Rufforth in second place with a two-game win against Alne.

York are still in the hunt, with Chris Hughes and Jackie Eccles winning 26 games against Cawood to end their hopes.

Stillington are finishing strongly, with Peter Jones and Christine Cookman again unbeaten.

The title decider will be the final match next week when Tollerton and Rufforth meet.

Heworth and Dunnington will be relegated from division one after just one season.

Heworth lost to Wigginton, with former member Eleanor Bradshaw teaming up with Ben Walker to win an impressive 32 games.

Dunnington Seconds were overwhelmed by a strong York first team to confirm their future. Poppleton opened up a gap at the top with two wins in a week, with Nick and Rebecca Turnbull achieving 36 games in a match against a good Fulford side and dropping just four games against Dunnington Firsts.

Wetherby Castlegarth had another win to close in on the division two title, winning a close match at Sherburn, David Corbyn and Angela Wood finishing with a 12-0 to seal the points. Poppleton and Bubwith swapped places, with winners Poppleton easing themselves out of the relegation area.

John Anderson and Hilary Spencer put in yet another winning performance for Poppleton.

The top four in division four clashed, with leaders Appleton Roebuck being pushed to the last hit by third-placed Copmanthorpe and won by just four games, thanks to unbeaten Dave Luscombe and Pauline Belt.

Second-placed Riccall had a slightly easier match against Fulford, led by unbeaten Andrew Dunning and Michelle Hall.

Wigginton are moving in on the division six title after closest rivals David Lloyd lost by four games to Wilberfoss, keeping them in touch.

The following night, David Lloyd resumed winning ways, led by Alex Brandon and Lisa Garland with 26 games to beat Poppleton.

Nick Bentley and Sara Grinnell led Dunnington to their first win to lift themselves off the foot of the table.

The top two teams in division seven both lost to throw promotion wide open.

Leaders New Earswick stay top on games difference after Copmanthorpe won by just two games to put themselves in contention.

Second-placed Heworth lost to third-placed Bubwith, led by unbeaten Andy Corfield and Ann Wottge after defeating Stillington the previous week, with Liam Moore and Gill McGroy top scoring.

Rufforth are now favourites to take second place in division eight as the other results went in their favour, with Bishopthorpe just getting the better of Wheldrake and trophy winners Riccall winning against Wilberfoss.

The division nine title is still between leaders David Lloyd, who added another win, led by Phil Rigby and Debbie Holman who won 30 games at Bishopthorpe.

Dom Wright and Sandra Burley won 30 games to keep Wigginton in second place after beating Appleton Roebuck, and just two points behind are Fulford, who beat Poppleton thanks to Hayden Marshall and Pam Mason winning 27 games – just one more than Mark Cook and Su Watson.

Stamford Bridge look to have the division ten trophy heading their way after Brett Carter and Kim Lees won 30 games against Wilberfoss, just one more game than Adrian and Natalie Muir. Second place is wide open after none of the chasing teams were able to dominate.

Rufforth, who are second, took the points against Fulford but lost to David Lloyd, with Lee Brayford and Katy Fowler winning 31 games.

Lloyd then lost the chance themselves to move up to second place as were beaten by just four games by Sutton-upon-Derwent, who added another win in a well-matched game at Bishopthorpe and move into third.

Wilberfoss at long last got their first victory, with Ben Allport and Max Bailey winning 30 games.
