PROP star Adam Robinson has declared his pride in “proving everyone wrong” after helping York City Knights defy the doubters and seal fourth spot in League One ahead of the Super 8s.

He also reckons the club are “building something special” as they continue on their upward curve - adding “it’s not over yet”.

The Knights were written off in many quarters before the season started, given the off-field crisis at the end of last year and the mass turnaround of players.

Robinson suggested he too had been written off as an “old man”, after being released by Halifax last term.

But the 30-year-old’s rampaging runs and big hits up top have been a feature of the team’s ever-improving campaign, which culminated in Sunday’s 34-0 victory over Workington Town on the last day of the regular season.

That also came in front of another four-figure crowd at Bootham Crescent – including the highest number of match-day walk-in supporters this season - which gave further evidence the club are on the up off the field as well as on it.

Robinson wrote on social media: “It's not all about winning leagues or playing in finals - proving people wrong gives you the same satisfaction.

“To all the people who said York will finish 10th, to all the people who said I was done and had nothing left to give this year, this is for you.

“Fourth place secured with a group of kids and old men ha! No pre-season, no ground, no team in January.

“And it's not over yet. Beware of the team that has already proved everyone wrong.”

The fixture list for the Super 8s comes out on Wednesday, but it is already known that the Knights will face Toronto (1st), Doncaster (5th), Newcastle (6th) and Workington (8th) at home, and Whitehaven (2nd), Barrow (3rd) and Keighley (7th) away, in the race for the top-five promotion play-offs.

On whether the season could yet get better, Robinson added: “We are building something special.”

He signed off with the hashtag being widely used by the players, increasingly adopted by supporters on social media - “Up the Kneets!”
