CITY of York Athletic Club duo Alex Botterill and Lucy Hadaway both won medals at the ISF World Schools Track and Field championship in France.

Botterill won gold in the 800 metres and Hadaway won silver in the long jump.

The England team beat more than 30 other countries to win overall gold in the girls' championship and silver in the boys' championship.

Botterill, 17, from Heslington, is currently studying 'A' Levels at Archbishop Holgates School while Hadaway, 17, from Poppleton, attends York College and is studying sports and exercise science.

The pair have also been chosen to represent England at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas on July 15.

Meanwhile, Hadaway and Botterill will also be competing at this weekend's English Schools Championships at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium.

City of York Athletic Club are providing almost half of the North Yorkshire team. The other COYAC representatives are Ed Lake, Ollie Wright, Ben Schofield, Sola Sowole, Ellie Sewell, Izzy Bradshaw, Max Farmer Beasley, Luke Robinson, Martha Calton Seal, Tom Flatters, Charlotte Stamp, Pip Baxter, Maya Mellor, Alice Linaker, Molly Newton O’Brien, and Rachel White.

Georgia Rothwell, Lukas Bradshaw, and Amelia Bunton are representing Humberside, Maria Schofield (West Yorkshire), David Todd (Durham) and Josh Dickinson (South Yorkshire).
