HOLGATE WMC continued their unbeaten record in the York Amateur Bowls Association League division one after the winning the battle of the top two.

Second-placed RI Amateurs were looking to close the gap but WMC bagged a 6-2 success.

This allowed Selby to jump above Amateurs into second place with a 7-1 win over Dunnington.

Elsewhere, Haxby Road continued their good form with a 7-1 win over Rowntree at Clarence Gardens.

In earlier games, Dringhouses beat Shipton 8-0 and RI Corinthians enjoyed a similar whitewash against Bootham.

Division two leaders Copmanthorpe slipped to a 6-2 home defeat to Hull Road Park, who continued to climb the table.

Poppleton Road WMC moved into second with a 6.5-1.5 win over Osbaldwick.

Harrogate recorded an 8-0 whitewash over Stamford Bridge, Minster fell 7-1 to Scarcroft at Clarence Gardens, and Retreat grabbed a 7-1 win over Poppleton.

The rearranged Williamson Cup ties were played on Monday following the almost complete washout a couple of weeks ago.

Poppleton Road WMC and Scarcroft had the closet game of the evening. The former, despite being quartered, came out with a 70.75-65 win.

Bootham had a comfortable 94-59.5 victory over Retreat at Clarence Gardens.

Division one side RI Corinthians won 92-69 at division two outfit West Park.

Hull Road Park beat fellow second tier side Harrogate 101-55.

Selby had the biggest margin of victory, seeing off Osbaldwick 134-28, while division one leaders Holgate WMC had a comfortable 116-50 win over division two side Minster. Gary Lewington’s rink picked up an eight on his way to victory.

Meanwhile, Holgate suffered their first defeat of the season in the York C&IU Evening League, at the hands of Railway Institute.

RI duly joined them at the top of the table on 57 points.

Clarence, although winning their match against Burton Lane, failed to gain maximum points and are in third place, one point behind the leaders.

Poppleton Road, playing two players short, gave South Bank the opportunity to gain their second win of term, and they took it, albeit by on 0.75 of a shot on the aggregate.

In the York C&IU Afternoon League, Holgate 'A', unbeaten after two games and with a game in hand, share the early leadership after beating last week's frontrunners Acomb 'A'. Railway Institute are also joint-top after taking two points from Tramways.
