I KNEW Tom Kohler-Cadmore was a good player before he signed for Yorkshire but this last couple of weeks has really shown me what he can do.

He has scored runs in almost every game he's played of late, be it for our second XI or for Driffield Town in league cricket.

He scored 191 for Driffield a week last Saturday, then 230 in our three-day Championship match against Derbyshire at Yorkshire.

The weekend just gone, he hit 49 off 18 balls for Driffield against our Academy, who I played for.

Then, when we played two T20s in the seconds against Notts at Barnsley on Monday, he hit 94 off 35 balls in one and 28 off 12 in the other.

I messaged him after the Worcester one-day game earlier this year and said 'get yourself to Yorkshire because every time I bowl at you, you seem to get a hundred or certainly a big score'. It's just great to watch him scoring runs on the same team.

His 230 was pretty special against Derby. He played it pretty well. He got to 20 at the end of day two and grafted for the first hour of day three, maybe getting 10 runs. Then he kicked on.

Until 150, he played a proper innings and stroked the ball around. When he got a bad ball, he put it away. After that, he had a bit of fun. It was pretty good to watch. He hit a spinner for three sixes off the first three balls of an over twice.

Not to rule out Jack Leaning after being left out at Lord's, either. To come back and get 76 not out and then 112 not out was great for him. That's what Andrew Gale wants. It was perfect for him to say 'look, I'm still here and in good form'.

It's good for the competition in the first team and keeps the lads who aren't scoring runs on their toes.

The last couple of years, perhaps they haven't had that competition. But it's starting to come through Harry Brook, Tom and Matthew Waite. Hopefully they keep biting each others heels and get the best out of each other.

Going back to Tom, he's quite a quiet lad but a self-confident one. He knows he can demolish any bowling attack. That's not arrogance or being over the top, he's just relaxed.

He speaks in the team chats when he needs to and leaves it when he doesn't think there's anything wrong.

I think he's got all the traits to be a good player for Yorkshire, maybe even a captain in the future. I think he will go a very long way in the game.

He's got a very clear game plan with the bat, certainly in one-day cricket. I know we were playing with a red ball in the Driffield/Academy match but he was definitely treating it as a one-dayer.

He moves around the crease subtly and then stops. As a bowler, you end up second guessing yourself as to whether he's going to move again.

He can run down and make it look as if he wants you to bowl it short. Then, when you bowl it full, he hits you straight. If you are short, he pulls you. It's all very simple and clever cricket, nothing rash.

He stayed at mine last week for the Derby game, which was at York, because it was a bit of a trek for him from Hornsea.

He actually said 'I'm going to run at you first ball on Saturday' – and he stuck to his word and hit me for four. Don't worry, I'll have the last laugh. Next time he stays at mine, he's sleeping in the garden shed!

I'm also feeling good about my game at the moment. I've only played three red-ball games this year that have gone three days. I got pulled out of another early to go into the first-team squad. But I'm nearly there.

I feel in good rhythm and am beating the bat quite a bit. I maybe haven't got the rewards with wickets yet but I feel like a bit of luck's around the corner and they could be edging five into the slips rather than just getting one wicket.

I'm happy in my body as well. I feel I could bowl 25 overs in a day if needed and hopefully I can keep knocking on the door.

I think the Shaun Marsh signing for T20 and a bit of Championship cricket later in the year is a really good one.

He has won the Big Bash three times with the Scorchers and will bring that experience to our dressing room, which is what you want from an overseas.

It will be good to meet him over the next few days to see how he goes about it.
