YORK City Knights may have seen the last of try-machine Nick Rawsthorne after the threequarter's double display for parent club Hull FC.

Former Halifax flier Rawsthorne, having been recalled from his loan at York, had been likely to make his Airlie Birds debut in one of their two Super League games over the Bank Holiday weekend, with boss Lee Radford expected to juggle his first-team squad for the double-header.

However, after making his bow last Friday against Leigh Centurions, he was picked again three days later and scored twice away to Catalans - the back-to-back selections suggesting he is now seen by the Hull hierarchy as more than back-up.

That said, the Black and Whites lost both games, while Radford had said the 21-year-old was "raw" in Super League terms having grown up in rugby union. Furthermore, while the Hull Daily Mail reported Rawsthorne, playing on the wing, "had some impressive moments" in France including "carrying the ball well out of backfield", they also noted "he was off the pace, as to be expected, in other aspects of the game such as his defence".

It remains to be seen, therefore, if Radford makes changes again for the visit of Wigan on Saturday and sends the young gun out for more game-time on loan to continue his development in readiness for more top-tier action.

Either way, the Knights are unlikely to bank on him coming back, even if that is seen as a blow to their play-off aspirations in League One.

Rawsthorne has scored in each of his five appearances and bagged four tries in one match away to Gloucestershire All Golds, his recent haul helping James Ford's men to four consecutive wins which have lifted them to sixth in the table.

In all, he has eight tries and 10 goals in his five Knights appearances.

Head coach Ford was unavailable for comment.
