AIDAN Connolly insists that he won't be giving his Wembley winner to the Beast!

Scottish winger Connolly is now in the record books as the player who scored York City's winning goal in the 3-2 FA Trophy victory over Macclesfield Town at Wembley.

But it was veteran striker Parkin - nicknamed 'The Beast' - who initially celebrated the goal having done all the spadework before knocking the ball past Macclesfield goalkeeper Scott Flinders!

Substitute Connolly merely stole his glory by applying the final touch just before the ball crossed the line.

"Of course I will claim it," said Connolly afterwards. "To score the winning goal in a Cup final at Wembley is the best moment in my career."

"I didn't want to pick a fight with the biggest man in the team but I did," he laughed,

Parkin, 6ft 4in tall, had already got on the scoresheet by scoring York's opening goal.

The former Barnsley and Hull City striker has been a revelation since returning for a second spell at York this season and has already pledged his future to the club next season.

Connolly, who is only 5ft 5in tall, said: "Jon has been brilliant for us this season and he scores every second week. But I like to score a goal too. I am such a young age and I am delighted to get that goal for my family. It was my first time at Wembley and it's a magnificent stadium. I couldn't have even dreamed about scoring a goal - but it has happened!

Connolly, 21, says his goal makes up for the frustration of spending three months on the sidelines this season with calf and hamstring injuries.

"A few of the boys think I deserve that goal because it's been so tough," he reflected. "I was out for three months and it took me a while to get back. When I did, the boys were flying and scoring goals.

"I am the type of person who wants to be playing every week," he admitted. "No matter how young I am, I feel I have the ability to play every week. But there are ups and downs in football and they always say 'keep your highs low and your lows high."

Having joined the Minstermen on a two year deal from Raith Rovers last summer, Connolly says he is ready to stay and help the club win promotion back to the National League next season.

"As a young boy, I want to play as high as I can but I am contracted to the club and I am committed to the club while I am here. You never know but I have got a another year and I am committed.

"Hopefully, we can keep this squad together because it is a good squad and we were unfortunate to go down. These things happen in football but, hopefully, we can go straight back up next season. We are all on a high after this win and hopefully we can carry that into next season."
