TADCASTER Magnets assured their York Minster Engineering League premier division status for next season with a surprise 2-1 defeat of champions Wigginton Grasshoppers in midweek.

The result leaves Copmanthorpe and Riccall United to fight out the second relegation place on Saturday.

Magnets went close a couple of times before Tom Marshall fired them ahead with a stunning free-kick.

Grasshoppers could not break down a resilient back line, with Magnets going two up before the break as a long ball saw Adam Udakis produce a moment of magic.

After a lacklustre start to the second period, Wigginton began to find their stride, pressuring the Magnets defence for the last 25 minutes.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Clapham was brought down by the keeper and Josh Luckhurst slotted home the penalty, but the hosts hung on for the deserved win.

Pocklington Town rounded off their division one season with a 1-1 draw at home to York St John University.

Pock finished second while the students have been relegated to division two.

Bishopthorpe United beat Strensall 5-1 to go second in division two, Jack Bell getting the consolation.

Easingwold Town must now beat Strensall in their last game to secure the second promotion spot ahead of the Bishops.

Heworth Green secured back-to-back championships with a 6-1 win over South Milford to finish top of division three.

Talisman Danny Marshall bagged four goals, with James Wood and Calum Mackenzie also netting, Paul Moran striking Milford's consolation.

Green have lost only five league games in two seasons.

Bramham finished fourth in division four with a 2-1 win at Bubwith thanks to goals from Alex Gregory and Richard Craven. Jamie Sedman replied.

Chris Brown, David Kettlewell and Jimmy Turton were on the mark in Crayke's 3-2 success against St Clement's. Danny King and James Whitworth responded.

Huntington Rovers' second team are in unstoppable form and secured the reserve 'A' title with a 2-0 defeat of Church Fenton White Horse.

Ben Thompson struck in the first half and strike partner Lee Bunce in the second.

Rovers added the league championship to the York FA Junior Cup they secured last weekend, and will aim for a treble with the Reserve Cup.

Huntington also faced last year's champions, Dunnington, in midweek and showed no signs of slowing down, winning 8-2.

Chris Johnson, Luke Whittaker, Pete Laidlaw (2), Ash Hill and Bunce (2) were on the scoresheet. The second of Bunce's strikes was the club's goal of the season - lobbing the keeper from well inside his own half.

The defeat piled more misery on Dunnington, who had been sunk 5-2 at Hemingborough earlier in the week. Brough's goals came from Luke Zacharenko (2), Nathan Patrick, Jamie Wheeler and Guy May.

Harry Thisleton (2), Harvey Townley and Ian Kerr struck for Old Malton St Mary's as they won 4-2 at Tadcaster Magnets.

The second promotion place in reserve 'B' is not yet settled following F1 Racing's 2-2 draw at Riccall United.

Alex Martin and Jason McCloud gained F1 a point, and that should be all they need from their final game to assure promotion.

Easingwold's game against Harrison Signs was abandoned following an injury, with Signs leading 2-1.

Heworth Green defeated Cliffe 7-2 in reserve 'C'. Steve Fratson (2), Will Neviani (2), Connor Savage, James Wilshire and Calum Marshall netted for the victors, with an own goal and Tom Grundy finding the target for Cliffe.
