A TOTAL of 96 entries have been received for the York & Ainsty Point-to-Point which takes place this Sunday afternoon at Easingwold.

Only five runners are entered for the opening Hunt Members race (2pm) which is likely to be fought out between Carlos Gardel and Peter From Paris.

The second race is for 4, 5 and 6 year old maidens and will feature Silvers West, a son of Westerner, the French-owned champion thoroughbred who won the Ascot Gold Cup at York in 2005.

A well bred four year old from the Nicky Tinkler yard, Silvers West is making his debut and his performance should be noted.

The Ladies Open has thirteen entries and is likely to be a wide open event. One of the stand out contenders, however, is Knocklong, unbeaten in all completed points but who carries a 7lb penalty for a Novices Hunters Chase victory last month at Catterick.

Qoubilai would enjoy any fast ground and is a likely pace setter for Lottie Crane who currently leads the Yorkshire Ladies Open and Ladies Novice Championships.

The Men's Open swiftly follows and course specialist Six A Side will likely take his chance having won on three of his previous four outings at Easingwold, including this race for the last two years.

Close House could be his main threat, a talented recruit when under rules and who has done little wrong between the flags including a close third behind two decent rivals at Askham Bryan.

The Restricted is the fifth race on the card and features Bentons Lad who has never been out of the first three all season barring a fall at Thorpe Lodge.

The Club Members race holds a number of entries from the open and could cut up a bit. Grouse Lodge was impressive at Askham Bryan but has been disappointing since.

Mickey Miller is the big improver in the race and jockey Jack Jordan, who avoids a penalty for still being a novice, finished a close second to Dance Of Time last time at Sheriff Hutton.

The final race is the Open Maiden and with several double entered in the younger maiden, this could again cut up.

Be A Dreamer is a long standing maiden but has some good efforts to his name and is likely to go close. The Dapper Prince and Sam’s Treasure are both big dangers. It may be worth noting the Nicky Tinkler contenders as well as Rock N Stones who showed he was capable last time at Charm Park when third behind Cheat Fairly.

Admission to the meeting costs £10 for adults. There will be a licensed bar and refreshments. The postcode for satellite navigation is YO61 3PS.
