HENRY Hughes and Sam Dyson both grabbed two tries apiece as Pocklington under-15s lost 37-27 in the national final of the NatWest Schools Cup Bowl.

Pock’s Ben Maycock also crossed the line and Harry Matthews added a conversion in a hard-fought contest at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium.

The result could have gone either way before Beths Grammar School, from south-east London, sealed victory with a final try two minutes before full-time.

Reaching the final was an amazing achievement in itself for the Pocklington team, who had won just two of their games during the entire previous season.

After seeing the players turn their form around this year by focusing on confidence-building, Gareth Hughes, the elite director of U15 rugby at Pocklington School, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of this journey and well done to all involved.

“The boys have done the school, the team and themselves proud.”
