NEW Earswick All Blacks suffered defeat against Norland Sharks in their second game of the Yorkshire Men's League division one campaign.

The Sharks, who were playing their first league game of the season, stormed into a 16-0 lead after just 20 minutes at the Sirius Academy in Hull.

But New Earswick eventually got into their stride and Jack Sinclair went over for a try following a break by Adam Kirby.

Liam Gargan added the extras to reduce the deficit to 10 points at the halftime interval.

Things improved further for New Earswick at the start of the second half as Sinclair bagged his second try from his team's first set. Gargan was again on target with the kick.

The Sharks hit back with a converted try to lead 22-12 but showed signs of tiredness in the hot conditions.

New Earswick managed to score again with 15 minutes remaining; George Hunt running a good line before stretching out to put the ball over the whitewash. Gargan duly scored his third goal of the game.

The home side looked for any opportunity to seal the points as the tide had now turned back towards New Earswick.

They added two points with a penalty from 25 metres before completing a 25-18 victory with a drop goal two minutes from time.

Coach Chris Judge said: "We didn’t get out of the blocks for the first 20 and it is always difficult to come back from 16-0 down. But I thought we dug in well when the going got tough and showed good attitude in the remaining hour."

Man of the match was awarded to fullback Ewen Coverdale.

The All Blacks 'A' team, meanwhile, recorded a 30-18 victory over Batley Boys 'A' in a YML merit league friendly.

The try scorers were Tom Barron (2), Will Holmes, Matty Williams, Devon Smith and Adam Winter-Rhodes. Connor Calum (2) and Harvey Baynes kicked conversions.
