YORK Nomads Society, who play in the Fastpack York Sunday Morning Football League, are eyeing a remarkable cup treble - starting tomorrow night with the first of two finals in four days.

The Nomads meet Teesside outfit The Cleveland, who are flying high in the Langbaurgh Sunday League, in the final of the North Riding Sunday County Cup at Stokesley (7.30pm).

Nomads saw off Marton Cricket Club 2-0 in the semi-finals in February, having notched seven goals in both of the previous two rounds, but they will probably start as underdogs tonight given The Cleveland beat an albeit understrength Wigginton Grasshoppers 10-2 in the earlier rounds of the competition. Wigginton are second in the York Sunday Morning League, one place above Nomads.

The Cleveland also sit second in the Langbaurgh League but overcame unbeaten leaders Park End in the semi-finals on penalties.

York Nomads follow this with the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup final at Tockwith on Sunday (10.30am), against Goole-based outfit NUR - whom they beat 8-4 in the league last weekend.

They are also in the semi-finals of the York Sunday Morning League Cup, in which they will travel to Selby Olympia on April 16.

The Nomads team is predominantly made up of players who turn out for Huntington Rovers, Osbaldwick, Dunnington and Dringhouses in the York Minster Engineering League premier division on Saturdays, along with two who play in the Northern Counties East League for Selby Town.

Manager Chris Smith reckoned they were underdogs tonight but was "confident" his side could lift all three trophies.

"From what I gather, The Cleveland have players from Boro Rangers, who lost to Old Malton St Mary's (of the York Minster Engineering League premier division) in the North Riding FA Saturday County Cup semi-finals, plus one or two lads who play semi-pro up there.

"I reckon they'll be favourites, but it (the cup treble) is definitely doable.

"We've got a good squad predominantly made up of top York League premier players plus a couple of Selby Town lads. We're confident."

Meanwhile, York Minster Engineering League outfits Riccall United Reserves and Pocklington Town 3rds tonight go to Beckett League side Heslerton and Driffield Evening Institute Reserves, respectively, in the semi-finals of the East Riding FA Junior County Cup (6pm).
