POPPLETON United are celebrating promotion to the York Minster Engineering League premier division after a 2-0 weekend win over relegated Heslington.

Will Edmond scored both goals for Poppleton who now need victory in their final game against York St Johns University to secure the division one title.

Hemingbrough United will definitely finish in the top three after defeating Tockwith by four goals to one.

Henry Wharton, Jonny Moss, and Niall Smallwood netted for Rawcliffe who drew 3-3 at Cliffe. Kevin Taylor, James Grundy and Tom Grundy struck for the home side.

The point could prove invaluable for Cliffe as it lifts them seven points clear of York St John University who currently occupy the second relegation slot.

The students have three games left to play and must now aim to win them all to survive in the second tier.

Wilberfoss completed their division two campaign in style with a 4-1 victory over Barmby Moor.

Stamford Bridge plunged Haxby United into trouble after a 4-1 victory.

Nathan Spreckley and Nick Rank were both at the double for Bridge and the win leaves Haxby needing maximum points from their remaining two games to have any chance of avoiding the drop.

The only game in division three saw Selby Olympia and The Raj playing out a goalless draw.

Malt Shovel returned to second spot in division four thanks to a 7-2 hammering of LNER Builders.

Brad Hall (3), Jake Raistrick, Charlie Harvey, Steven Frost and Declan Coulthard were on target for the hosts.
