ALEX Lees smashed 175 as Yorkshire ended their pre-season tour of Dubai in style by racking up 409-5 in a thumping one-day win over the United Arab Emirates Blues.

Lees led the way against the UAE's equivalent of the England Lions team, while Gary Ballance finished 92 not out and Adam Lyth added 68.

Azeem Rafiq then claimed 4-10 from 4.2 overs as the Blues were skittled for 72, meaning a 337-run win for the Vikings in their final match of the trip.

The Yorkshire squad are due to land back in Manchester tomorrow morning ahead of Sunday's three-day University friendly against the students of Leeds/Bradford at Headingley.

"To score 400 against the UAE Blues, I think it was really a blueprint of how we want to play our 50-over cricket and how we want to bat," said Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon.

Lees powered 16 fours and fives sixes from 125 balls, while Ballance was inventive for the vast majority of his 12 boundaries off 59 deliveries.

Yorkshire have reached the semi-finals in each of the last two RL50 competitions and the early signs suggest they will be there or thereabouts again this season, having also comprehensively beaten Papua New Guinea this week.

Lees, who was playing his first Yorkshire match of the tour, having captained the MCC in Twenty20 and four-day cricket, said: "Getting time out in the middle at this time of the year is really important.

"I came from New Zealand into our pre-season, where I got some good middle practice. I'm just pleased to contribute to a winning team and to get another two hours out in the middle.

"It's about getting yourself into a good place for the start of the season – but you can whack it around out here and nick off early doors back home.

"It gives you an advantage for your headspace but ultimately the important innings are the first couple of innings on English soil.

"The UAE Blues weren't as strong as we thought but runs are runs. I was certainly delighted with another hundred."
