LEADERS Heworth hit top form to seal the York Conservative Clubs Faber Shield Billiards League title in style.

In the final games played this week, the front-runners sprinted clear as they beat Bootham 6-0 and Fulford 5-1 to top the table by 17 points.

The game against Bootham saw Darren Clark overtake the previous highest break of the season - Gary Rogers' 130 - by making an impressive 135 in his frame against Matt Smith.

Rogers, meanwhile, made a 48 break as he beat Ian Robinson.

Wins for Brian Birch over Alf Appleby, Carl De Pasquale against Colin Robinson, and Mark Winskill (41 break) over Paul Mahoney secured the clean sweep.

Heworth's second victory was nearly as impressive as Rogers led the way with breaks of 79, 64 and 63 in a close 150-145 win against Wayne Puleston.

Fulford's Dollin Mercer beat Keith Watkinson 150-116, but Heworth took the remaining frames as Winskill, with a 36 break, beat Alan Reed, De Pasquale defeated Tom Lewis, and Clark, with breaks of 35, 24 and 60, saw off Robert Plant.

Fulford fought out a 3-3 draw in their other match against Acomb despite losing the first two frames as Trevor Ventress beat Puleston 150-109 and Paul Holmes (25 break) defeated Terry Ward (25 break) 150-94.

Fulford took the next three frames but lost the aggregate by three points. Mercer beat Keith Thornhill 150-101, Reed beat Richard Lillie 150-125, and Plant got the better of Jon Milner 150-130.

The Player of the Year leaderboard ended with the Heworth pair of Clark and Winskill on top, both finishing with 11 victories each. Clark also took the Highest Break award with his aforementioned 135.

Meanwhile, the conclusion of the Slater Cup Pairs Snooker League saw the Heworth club pick up more silverware, topping the standings by one point ahead of Fulford to take the title. Both teams lost their last games of the campaign 3-2.
