LEADERS Malt Shovel staged a bold fightback to earn a 5-5 draw against Hounds in the ‘Fastpack Ltd’ York Sunday Morning League division one.

Hounds led 4-1 at the interval but were denied victory as the league’s top marksman Gary Collier bagged a hat-trick.

Christopher Jackson, however, was the game’s top scorer with four goals for Hounds. Reuben Pearce was also on target.

Wayne Brook and Derry Robson added goals for Shovel.

Wigginton Grasshoppers were unable to close the gap on Malt Shovel after drawing1-1 against Thorpe United and dropped to third in the table.

Curtis Swain opened the scoring for Thorpe in the first half but Wigginton, despite having a player sent off, levelled through Jake Duckworth.

York Nomads Society managed to leapfrog Wigginton into second spot after beating Bubwith 4-2.

Cameron Mulhearn scored a hat-trick for Nomads and Chris Bilton added the fourth.

A close game between the teams positioned seventh and eighth in the league took place when NUR travelled to Marcia Bishopthorpe.

The visitors led 2-1 going into the break but Marcia managed to pull the game back and win 4-3.

Aiden Ward (2) and Mikey Stannard scored for NUR.

In division two, second placed Hambleton managed to grab three points and plunder 11 goals against Beeswing.

Leading 7-0 at half time, Hambleton scored four more in the second half to boost their impressive goal difference.

Third-placed Bramham were unable to put pressure on the top two and lost 2-0 to struggling Elmpark thanks to a brace from Ellis Turbine.

The result lifts Elmpark into seventh spot above Beeswing who have also played an extra game.

Cliffe FC missed out on a place in the final of the East Riding County Cup when losing3-1 to Kingswood Wolves.

Selby Olympia, meanwhile, won 5-4 on penalties against Haxby United in the quarterfinals of the Junior Cup.
