YORK City Ladies returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 6-1 victory at East Yorkshire Carnegie.

The Minsterbelles needed to bounce back after a 6-1 defeat against North East Regional Premier League leaders Norton & Stockton Ancients.

And they achieved that objective with Kayleigh Davis scoring twice and Megan Bramham on target for the third game in a row.

Striker Ellie Regan netted her seventh goal of the campaign with Martha Ohr claiming her first for the club alongside fellow substitute Nikki Brown.

Beth Clayton was named player of the game while there was a welcome return for Helen Winterburn following injury.

The Belles remain sixth in the table but are now within five points of third-placed Castleford White Rose with four games remaining.

“It felt really good to finally get a goal for the club, especially after putting in a few decent performances,” commented goalscorer Ohr.

York City Ladies Reserves, meanwhile, have exited the League Cup at the quarter-final stage after a 4-1 defeat at Norton & Stockton Ancients.

The Minsterbelles always faced an uphill task against the side from the higher division and were trying to achieve what the first-team had been unable to do seven days earlier.

Nyci Thorns opened the scoring with a free-kick on the edge of the area.

Strike partner Jess White doubled the lead from Sian Williams’ low delivery and then grabbed her second on the stroke of the interval.

Thorns also went on to double her tally when heading in White’s corner after the break.

The visitors re-organised and Ellie Randall reduced the deficit with her 15th goal of the season from a 65th minute corner.

White also struck the crossbar as the hosts booked a semi-final date with Wallsend Boys Club Ladies.
