YORK City manager Gary Mills has until 5pm this afternoon to finalise his squad for the remaining nine league games of the season.

No further signings are allowed after the National League transfer deadline and Mills's main concern is the possible need for a new goalkeeper as Kyle Letheren suffered a back injury in Tuesday night's victory over Southport.

The Minstermen are still five points adrift of safety and locked in a battle against relegation to the sixth tier of the English game.

If Letheren should be ruled out for any length of time, it will leave youth team goalkeeper Ryan Whitley, 17, providing cover for reserve team goalkeeper Luke Simpson.

He had suffered back spasms against Southport and was under examination yesterday.

Mills, meanwhile, is also seeking to resolve the future of midfielder Asa Hall whose loan deal from Cheltenham Town is due to expire after Saturday's trip to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Cheltenham, who are battling to avoid relegation in League Two, have indicated a desire to recall the player but Hall is keen to extend his stay at Bootham Crescent after helping York reach the final of the FA Trophy.

"We need two goalkeepers and, if Kyle isn’t going to be right, I need to bring another goalkeeper in," said Mills.

"Asa can play on Saturday - because he’s contracted until then - but we know Cheltenham are interested in taking him back," he added.

"He doesn’t want to go back - because he’s enjoying his football here - and it would scupper the chance of playing at Wembley but I need to know on that situation."
