NINE Special Olympics City of York (SOCOY) indoor and short mat bowlers, together with their coaches, will take part in a sponsored “Bowl a Mile” event tomorrow.

The event, at their home club New Earswick IBC, will raise money for them to compete at the 2017 Special Olympics National Summer Games to be held in Sheffield in August.

They will be joined by representatives of sponsors Acomb Travel Agency and Jet2Holidays.

The bowling will be between noon and 2pm and there is an open invitation to go along and afterwards join representatives from Acomb Travel and Constantnou Bros Hotels who will showcase bowls-themed holidays in Cyprus. Refreshments will be provided.

In total, the City of York group will be supporting up to 45 athletes, coaches and personal supporters across seven sports to compete at the 2017 National Summers Games.

The cost will be about £21,500 and the SOCOY Steering Group is looking to raise 50 per cent partnership support from the York business community.
