CITY of York Ladies will want to forget this season as quickly as possible after failing to win a single game in the North Hockey Women’s League premier division.

Already relegated, COY ended the campaign with a 6-2 defeat against fifth-placed Sheffield Hallam.

York II, however, secured a top four finish in the Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League premier division thanks to a 3-2 victory over Sheffield Hallam II.

Lily Rowntree opened the scoring with a shot from the top of the D.

Hallam equalised before Vicky Skilton restored COY’s lead from a penalty flick.

Goalkeeper Cattie Whitworth made incredible saves to deny Hallam who desperately needed a win to avoid relegation. Corinne Wray’s goal late on sealed the win.

Player of the match Molly Petherbridge scored the only goal of the game for relegated York III who were beaten 4-1 at University of Leeds III.

York IV will now finish bottom of division one after losing 4-1 at Halifax II. Rebecca Feetenby scored the COY goal.

York V enjoyed a first victory in eight games thanks to Rachel Hildreth’s goal against division four north rivals Thirsk III.

York VI will be relegated next weekend if they lose to University of Leeds VI.

Playing with only 10 players, they lost 3-1 against Leeds IV last weekend and are one point adrift of safety ahead of the final weekend. Sarah Davies was on target.

Struggling York VII suffered a 9-2 defeat at home to division five north runners-up Scarborough.

Tadcaster Magnets I were beaten 1-0 by Northallerton and are sitting only one point above the division one relegation zone ahead of their final game against Halifax II.
