THE top-of-the-table clash between Wigginton Grasshoppers and Huntington Rovers in the York Minster Engineering premier league didn't disappoint as the sides played out a tense 1-1 draw.

The result sees Wigginton remain ten points clear at the top, although Rovers have a game in hand and the sides are due to meet again in a few weeks' time.

After a few half chances for both sides, Danny Gray stepped up to fire the visitors ahead with a well taken free-kick from the edge of the box.

Wigginton responded and saw Matthew Tiplady go close to equalising twice, with the striker firing wide of the post on both occasions.

George Brown threatened to extend Rovers' lead before the break but was denied by Michael Clancy in the Wigginton goal.

The second period again saw opportunities for goals at both ends with Chris Dyson hitting a post for Huntington, and only heroics from goalkeeper James Edmond keeping out Jamie Willstrop's close-range strike.

A goal-mouth scramble in the 70th minute, following a corner, resulted in several attempts to get the ball home and Tiplady finally hammered it into the net from four yards to bring Wiggy level.

The last 20 minutes saw no further score and resulted in honours even, with the home side being the happier of the two with the final outcome.

Old Malton St Mary's continued with their late run of form to defeat third-placed Dringhouses 2-0. Old Malton now lie in fourth position, just seven points behind 'Houses, on whom they have two games in hand.

Malton & Norton moved level on points with both Old Malton and Dunnington thanks to a 2-1 victory at F1 Racing.

The visitors bossed the first half and took the lead thanks to a Scott Preston penalty after half an hour.

The goal livened up the hosts and they equalised just before the break when Alex Martin forced the ball home following good work from Jason McCloud.

F1 dominated much of the second half and, despite hitting the post three times, they couldn't convert their chances and paid the price when Tom Audsley hit a stoppage time winner for Malton & Norton.

York RI's 3-1 win over Brooklyn officially relegated the Malton based side.

An own goal plus efforts from Craig McShane and Craig Atkinson were enough to put an end to Brooklyn's premier division stay.

The question is now who will join them in division one, with four sides separated by just three points.

Riccall United currently occupy the second relegation place but gave themselves a lifeline with a 3-1 win at Church Fenton White Horse.

Gary Collier, Aaron Raymond and Andrew Best hit the target for Riccall with Charlie Yates hitting the White Horse' reply.

Scott Collins' strike gave Tadcaster Magnets a massive three points as they defeated fellow strugglers Copmanthorpe 1-0.
