KYLE Edmund has set up a big-hitting quarter-final against top seed Milos Raonic today [Friday] in the Delray Beach Open.

Eighth seed Edmund and Raonic both suffered long rain delays before triumphing on the hard courts in Miami.

British No 3 Edmund kept his focus to defeat world No 63 and 2016 AEGON Ilkley Trophy winner Yen-Hsun Lu (Taiwan) 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, while Raonic beat Croat Borna Coric 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

In the first round, Beverley-born Edmund profited from a concession during his 6-3, 6-0 victory over Adrian Mannarino.

The Frenchman was penalised a game for smashing a ball out of court and, as Edmund was leading 6-3 5-0 and 15-0 in the sixth game of the second set, the punishment confirmed the Frenchman's defeat.

It was the last of three unsavoury incidents as a frustrated Mannarino had kicked a chair midway through the second set before hitting a ball in the direction of a ball boy.

In the final game, Mannarino slammed two consecutive service returns out of court to be handed the decisive game penalty.

Last month, Edmund was in a similarly commanding position against Denis Shapovalov in the Davis Cup against Canada in Ottawa.

Shapovalov was defaulted for blasting a ball into the eye of umpire Arnaud Gabas, with Edmund leading 6-3, 6-4, 2-1.
