STEVE BAXTER was the hero as Old Malton St Mary's set up an all-York Minster Engineering League final in the North Riding County FA Saturday County Cup.

Baxter got both goals in a battling display as Saints beat Teesside League side Boro Rangers 2-1 away from home in a tie which was put back a week due to bad weather seven days earlier.

It will be St Mary's third final outing in this competition in four years having lifted the trophy for the first time in 2014 and reached the final again in 2015.

The reigning York League champions, currently languishing in mid-table, will now meet high-flying Huntington Rovers in the final – their premier division rivals having won at Redcar Town last week.

The gap between the top two in the league's premier division increased to eight points as Wigginton Grasshoppers gained a 3-0 win at Brooklyn, and Huntington were held to a goalless draw by Malton & Norton.

Wigginton were forced to work for their points by bottom-of-the-league Brooklyn. The home side almost took the lead after ten minutes but were denied by a brilliant reaction save by Michael Clancy.

Hoppers began to create chances and Jamie Green teed up Gary Newton who lobbed the Brooklyn keeper to give the away side a slender lead.

There were no more goals until the 80th minute when Newton's free-kick found Green, who headed home.

Five minutes later and the scoring was complete – Matthew Tiplady finding Green, with the defender firing home from six yards.

Huntington Rovers and Malton & Norton took part in a free-flowing contest which saw the home side do everything but score.

Rovers hit the post, had a penalty claim turned down, saw two goals disallowed and had a host of chances saved by the visitors' keeper.

However, the Malton & Norton defence held firm and ensured that the away side left with an excellent point.

Gary Collier gave Riccall United the lead at Dringhouses but Joe Rawcliffe levelled the scores shortly afterwards.

Matthew Mulhearn then fired Dringhouses into the lead only to see Collier make it 2-2 before the break.

The second period was one-way traffic in terms of goals, with two Liam Robertson penalties and a Sam Drake goal giving 'Houses a 5-2 win which moved them to within two points of second-placed Huntington.

Sporting Knavesmire remain in fourth spot following their 4-1 win at Copmanthorpe.

The home side took the lead but Tom Owen ensured that the sides went in all square at the break. A second goal from Owen, along with strikes from Andrew Simpson and George Wilson, ensured that the points went the way of Knavesmire.

Dunnington took the lead at Osbaldwick via a Marcos Garcia wonder goal but Chris Bilton equalised just before the interval.

Despite having plenty of chances in the second period, Osbaldwick could not capitalise and instead found themselves on the end of a 2-1 loss.

Pocklington Town moved to the top of division one on goal difference after their 3-0 victory at York St John University.

Hemingbrough United sit in third place, two points behind Poppleton United, following their 6-0 mauling of Rawcliffe.

Josh Gill hit a hat-trick in the win with Jamie Wheeler and Tom Collins (2) also on the scoresheet.

Tockwith gained three points from their trip to Cliffe, winning 3-0. Jim Gledhill, Andy Walker and Will Richmond netted.
