LEADERS Coneysthorpe 'A' needed a treble from James Rule to edge a close encounter with their 'B' team in division one of the Time Communications York & District Table Tennis League.

Joel Wright played well for the 'B' team securing a fine victory over Ashley Hodgson in his team's narrow 6-4 defeat.

Bootham 'A' shared the spoils with York RI 'A' in a competitive 5-5 draw.

Jon Wooldridge and Joe Wright contributed braces for Bootham, while Paul Robertson and Filip Wojtkowiak responded in kind for the RI.

Aidan Ranftler was unbeaten as Clarence 'A' defeated their 'B' team 8-2, with Steve Ayres contributing a brace for the 'B' team.

Jake McCarthy was on top form as York RI 'B' battled to a 5-5 draw against their higher-placed 'C' team.

In division two, Mark and Luke Blackburn were undefeated as leaders York RI 'D' cruised to an 8-2 win over Bootham 'B'.

University 'B' kept up the pressure with Ishan Bairoliya and Calum Godwin on top form in a 7-3 triumph over a strong York RI 'E' team.

Strensall picked up an important 6-4 win against Poppleton thanks to braces from Nigel Reeson and Dave Quinlan.

York RI 'F' turned in their best performance of the season as they thrashed Clarence 'C' 9-1. Ryan Hood and Tom Thorp were unbeaten while Lewis McCarthy chipped in with a double.

In the third division, University 'B' recorded a superb 8-2 win against Shepherds 'B', with Razvan Ababei and Sonja Wieland untroubled.

South Bank 'A' had a good week as they secured consecutive victories against BT 'B' (7-3) and Wigginton & Haxby 'B' (9-1), with Terry Ruane unbeaten in both fixtures.
