YORK City boss Gary Mills is confident he has the strikers to fire the club to National League safety.

The Minstermen’s goals-to-chance ratio has come under scrutiny in recent weeks with Mills’ side having not seen their dominance reflected on the scoresheet during a series of drawn league games.

But in Amari Morgan-Smith (three goals in five games), Jon Parkin (three in nine) and Vadaine Oliver (one in four), Mills has full faith that his frontmen have the ammunition to steer City away from trouble.

The City boss feels his attackers are unfortunate not to have higher goal tallies, with Parkin having hit the frame of the goal on several occasions since his switch from Newport and Oliver having a goal wrongly disallowed for offside, according to Mills on viewing the match DVD from last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Maidstone.

Mills said: “We’re creating numerous chances in every game and we’ve got to stick them away, which I believe the three strikers we have got can do. “

Despite midweek wins for Woking and Guiseley meaning the gap to a position of safety widened from three points to five, Mills added that he won’t be fretting over matters outside of his control and that the Minstermen must take care of their own destiny.

“There’s nothing we can do about other teams’ results and there are lots of points to play for with two big games next, including our one in hand against Gateshead on Tuesday,” he reasoned.

“Depending on other results, we could be out of the bottom four if we win our next two and, then, everything looks different again.”
