STRUGGLING New Earswick picked up only two points as they lost 94-77 to Hornsea in Yorkshire League division one.

At home Graham Lockwood, Dave Elcock, Mick Head and Paul Dawson led 11-5 after seven ends, despite dropping a four at the third, but they lost the next ten to go 28-11 behind after 17.

They won three of the last four but fell 29-19.

Dave Clayden, Dave Sykes, Andrew Fothergill and Kevin Liddell started in a similar fashion, leading 13-5 after nine ends, and this rink made it pay.

They dropped nine shots at the next four ends to go 14-13 down but restricted their opponents to only four singles at the last nine ends to win 23-18.

At Hornsea, Bob Elliot, Kevin Fort, John Harrison and Tony Abbot scored a five at the fourth end and led 12-2 after seven but Hornsea notched a one, a two, a three, a four, a five and a six in the next eight ends to lead 24-15 after 15.

The two rinks matched each other over the last six ends for Hornsea to win 28-20.

In a low scoring start, Bill Waldie’s rink of Colin Ellis, Gordon Fratson and Colin Pickup led 9-6 after 13 ends. But the scoring rate suddenly rose with hosts scoring six shots in three ends. Earswick replied with eight shots at the next three ends to lead 17-12 with two ends to play but dropped a three and a four to lose 19-17.

New Earswick picked up four North Eastern Ladies League points as they lost 71-64 to Leeds.

Moira Ellis, Sandra Hemsley, Margaret Morgan and Monika Morgan only scored four singles in the first 13 ends to trail 18-4 en route to a 22-11 defeat.

Lorna Tordoff, Sally Domville, Annette Prosser and Norma Davies scored six singles to trail 7-6 after 11 ends but only allowed their opponents four singles at the final ten ends for a 19-11 win.

Away, Denise Elliott, Gemma Broadhead, Irene Warrington and Majorie Watson led 9-8 after 12 ends but with the help of a six at the 13th and a five at the last, Leeds won 24-14.

Doramy Bellwood, Margaret Pearson, Lynn Page and Kath Sykes dropped two threes in the first nine ends but still led 9-7. They won the next seven to make it 18-7 and hung on for a 20-14 win.
