WILL EASTERBY celebrated a double landmark at last weekend’s Sinnington Point-to-Point.
Will, the son of leading Malton-based trainer Tim Easterby, rode his 50th point-to-point winner and also enjoyed his first training success courtesy of Kings Lodge in the opening Hunt Race.
He then rode his second winner of the day on Hunt Politics, trained by Steph Easterby, in the first division of the Maiden race.
On Kings Lodge, he said: “The horse had a wind operation last year which has helped him.
“He jumped well and loved being out in front - just like when he is on the gallops at home,” he added. “This win will have acted as a confidence booster.”
On Hunt Politics, he said: “He is a lovely horse, who jumped well and relished the soft going.”
Organisers, horses, jockeys and spectators endured testing weather conditions thanks to the heavy rain at Duncombe Park.
Trainer Cherry Coward and owner Richard Morris also celebrated a double.
Game as a Pheasant, ridden by Joe Wright, landed the Restricted Race and The Highlander, ridden by John Dawson, won the Mixed Open Race.
Comedinewithme, trained by Susan Mason, was tipped to continue her career under rules after winning the Confined Race under Richard Smith. The PPORA Race for Veteran and Novice Riders was won by Neville Woods and owner/trainer/jockey Philip Greaves.
“The horse was purchased out of the ring at Doncaster sales and has proved his worth in other disciplines already,” said Greaves’ mother Pat. “When Philip isn’t busy running the family’s farm, he whips-in for the Hurworth.
The second division of the maiden saw a victory for Our Jj, an exciting young prospect ridden by Max Johnson and trained by Nicky Tinkler for owner/breeder Steve Knowles.
The son of Sulamani made his racecourse debut and travelled well throughout the race. He is half brother to Bramble Vodka, who was an impressive winner in points on the Yorkshire circuit in 2014.
“He’s a big baby and he’s come out of the race well,” said Tinkler. “He will go to Charm Park next and should give his owners a lot of fun.”
The next point-to-point fixture is The West of Yore at Askham Bryan College on Sunday February 26.
