WIGGINTON Grasshoppers remain three points clear of Huntington Rovers at the top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division after both sides recorded victories in games that managed to survive the icy conditions.

Wigginton were grateful to F1 Racing for allowing a late switch in venue which gave their fixture the green light. Tom Derbyshire put 'Hoppers ahead from close range after half an hour, with Steve Jarvis producing a delightful lob ten minutes later to double their advantage.

F1 were by no means out of the game though, and gained a deserved goal on the stroke of half-time when a wicked cross-cum-shot fizzed back off a post, allowing George Trifan to slide the ball home.

In the second period, F1 came out of the blocks firing and had a penalty claim turned down moments before Wigginton broke to force a corner from which Jamie Green headed home to make it 3-1.

A loose clearance from the F1 goalkeeper allowed Jamie Willstrop to strike the ball into an empty net from 30 yards before Chris Dempsey produced an excellent finish to bring F1 back into it at 4-2.

Late goals from Matthew Tiplady and Mike Byram, however, saw the game finish 6-2 to Wigginton.

Huntington Rovers faced a battling Tadcaster Magnets side and led at half-time through a cushioned header from Josh Whaite.

Magnets put up a rallying performance early in the second half, but two Chris Dyson goals, one from the penalty spot, saw Rovers home 3-0.

A resurgent Riccall United welcomed back Gary Collier, and his goal earned them a point at defending champions Old Malton St Mary's, with the sides playing out a 1-1 draw.

Gerard McCargo bagged three goals in a five-minute spell for Church Fenton White Horse as they put up a dominant performance against Copmanthorpe.

Liam McEntee added a fourth late in the half before both he and McCargo bagged again in the second period to make it 6-0, with Copmanthorpe getting a late consolation, courtesy of a stunning Jake Moyse free-kick.

Dunnington continue to creep closer to the top of the table and recorded another stylish performance as they put eight past York RI without reply.

Samson Wildwood led the scoring with a hat-trick, with John Heads, Alex Wilson and Ben Small also netting. Callum Richardson came off the bench to put the icing on the cake with a finely-taken brace.

Jack Sullivan and Chris Bilton notched for Osbaldwick in a busy first period in which Harry Sheppeard also bagged his first for the club as Osso moved into a 3-0 half-time lead.

A less than lively second half had few moments of note, with Bilton missing a chance to increase his tally from the penalty spot as the half remained goalless and Osbaldwick collected the all-important points.
