IN THE first games back after the Christmas break, two of The Fastpack Ltd York Sunday Morning League's teams were in county cup action.

York Nomads Society progressed to the next round of the North Riding County Cup with a 7-1 win over Grangtown. Hounds, meanwhile, went through with a 5-1 win over Heaton Athletic in the West Riding County Cup.

Division one of the league saw reigning champions Wigginton Grasshoppers beaten 4-3 away at Bubwith White Swans.

The score was even at half time 1-1, but Bubwith won the second half and took all three points. Wigginton’s goals came from Jamie Green, Michael Clancy and Jamie Willstrop.

Current leaders Malt Shovel travelled to Thorpe and managed to take all three points with a 4-1 win, sending them three points clear at the top.

Malt were leading 2-0 at half time and added another two goals in the second half to win the game comfortably.

Their goals included a brace from William Ramsey and solo efforts from Chris Harkin and Jake Raistrick. Thorpe’s consolation goal came from Reece Stonarch.

Brayton travelled to Marcia Bishopthorpe and it took Brayton just three minutes to score the opener, with Paul Tiffany netting from a corner.

The visitors doubled their lead after 13 minutes when Joe Krygsman chipped the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

It took Brayton 10 minutes of the restart to score with a nice finish by Will Cleary, They netted a further two goals in the last 10 minutes with finishes from substitute Adam Gilliland and a second for Cleary, to win 5-0.

NUR came up against Cliffe in a close game which finished 3-2 to NUR. Danny Cotton, Gary Stephenson and Matt West scored for the home side.

In division two, Selby Olympia’s 100 per cent record ended at the hands of Hambleton, who climbed up to second in the table.

With the score 1-1 at half-time, Hambleton killed off the game, scoring a further two in the second half to win 3-1. Hambleton’s goals came from Yves Komba, Matthew Pearce and Nathan Parker. Selby’s goalscorer was Luke Lambert.

Beeswing played Rawcliffe Crusaders at home and claimed a 4-2 victory. Alex Day was the hero with a fine hat trick and Carl Falcone also scored for the winners.

Haxby United succumbed to a shock 9-0 defeat to York Medics. Greg Chambers fired five goals for Medics with a brace from Jasaren Grewal, and Elliot Jones-Williams and Henry Lonsdale also scoring a goal apiece.

Bramham earned another big win by beating Wentworth 11-2. Josh Wilson scored four goals, while Anthony Walsh notched a hat trick and Danny Beaza and Andy Maxted also scored. Diego Perdisci and Dan Mullen netted for the visitors.

A closely-fought game between Knapton Lions and Elmpark saw the latter edge it and win 3-2. Elmpark took a 1-0 lead at half-time and both teams scored two each in the second half.

Dan Davison scored a brace and Calvin Brown also netted for the winners, Declan Richardson and Danny Stannard were on target for the home team.
