YORK Disability Tennis Network and Special Olympics City of York (SOCOY) players enjoyed success at the National Learning Disability Tennis Championships in Wrexham.

In their first National Championships, Maria Bruce and William Farrow won singles gold medals, while Matthew Brough won bronze.

Seasoned campaigners Laura Campbell and Cameron Long took silver and bronze in their competitions.

In the mixed doubles, Campbell and her partner won gold, while Bruce and Brough achieved silver together.

In the men's doubles, Long and Farrow won silver and Brough stepped in to partner a player from another region and achieved bronze.

Meanwhile, SOCOY swimmers competed at the annual Yorkshire and Humberside regional championships at the Hydro, Harrogate.

They gave a fantastic team performance, with personal best (PB) times and a medal in at least one event achieved by all. Charlie Cutting was also given a speeding ticket - whereby he outperformed his PB by so much he could not be awarded a medal.

They ace swimmers were: Angus Leckonby (100-metre freestyle, 67.91secs, silver and PB; 200m freestyle, 2min 31secs, gold and PB); William Scrope (50m freestyle, 37.67secs, bronze; 100m freestyle, 1min 24secs, gold and PB): Charlie Cutting (50m freestyle, 45.29secs, gold and PB; 50m backstroke, 51.16secs, speeding ticket and PB); Felicity Bagley

(50m freestyle, 1min 11secs; 50m breaststroke, 1min 20secs, silver and PB); Mark Snelling (100m breaststroke, 1min 42secs, silver and PB; 200m breaststroke, 3min 29secs, silver and PB); Jake Vicars (50m breaststroke, 61.12secs, silver and PB; 50m freestyle, 42.59secs, bronze and PB). The boys' team also claimed silver in the 4x50m freestyle relay.
