POCKLINGTON RUFC will visit old rivals tomorrow looking to continue on the crest of a new-found wave.

The East Yorkshire side, buoyant after their rampant finish in last week's 53-5 thrashing of leaders West Hartlepool, travel to the top of the Pennines to renew acquaintance with Huddersfield YMCA (2.15pm).

The two clubs have been keen rivals in recent years in Yorkshire Two, Yorkshire One and North One East as both climbed the leagues in tandem.

Pocklington initially had the upper hand as they rose in stature, then Huddersfield YMCA took over and went one level higher to National League Three as they were promoted again two years ago.

But the West Yorkshire outfit were relegated again at the end of last season, and since returning to North One East have enjoyed mixed results, though they have found form in the past couple of weeks.

They currently lie three places and 12 points behind Pocklington, who remain in fourth, in touch with the front runners.

After having half a dozen changes each Saturday in recent weeks, Pock will be hoping for a more settled line-up this time, albeit with centre James Flint back after being unavailable last week, allowing Jonty Peters to revert to the wing.

Injury-hit Malton & Norton, third-bottom of the table, are hoping the endeavour their depleted team showed in defeat at high-riding Alnwick will continue - and be rewarded with points, starting with tomorrow's visit of Morpeth, who sit two places above them.

According to spokesmen Bill Laidler, "what the team lacked in finesse (at Alnwick) they made up for with a spirited display across the board".

Said Laidler: "Hopefully, some of the injuries will clear up sooner rather than later. Those who are currently filling the shoes of the injured cannot be faulted for effort and, if they can gain a little more accuracy in their play, they may well surprise a few."

In Yorkshire One, Selby, having impressed in defeat against high-riding Old Brodleians last week, this time go to Heath and, on the back of their last showing, will be confident of gaining the spoils this time against a side second bottom.

The Halifax outfit have only two wins from 11 outings but Selby themselves have only three from 12 and will want to come away with more to show for their efforts than a couple of losing bonus points.

York jumped right into the play-off mix at the top with their 36-0 victory over North Ribblesdale but their credentials will face a bigger test tomorrow as they go to Old Brods.

The two teams are level on points with third-placed Keighley, just one point behind West Leeds in the race for the sole play-off place below runaway leaders Bridlington.

York RI, fresh from a romp against Hornsea, go to Stanley Rodillians in Yorkshire Four.
