CALLUM WARD scored four times as Selby Town got back to winning ways in a midweek goal fest at Brigg Town.

Brigg played most of the game with ten men after centre-back Jake Thompson saw red after only 12 minutes with his side already a goal down.

The Robins went on to win 7-4 as both defences struggled to contain the opposition - a frailty they will look to correct when Eccleshill visit the FPH Stadium on Saturday.

The result left Selby eighth in Northern Counties East League division one, very much in play-off hunt.

Former Tadcaster Albion and Pickering Town striker Ward had bagged that opener with a cool finish from a Will Ramsey and, although Brigg levelled the scores after 17 minutes through James Wroot, Thomas Hogg headed home three minutes later from a pinpoint Gary Lumley cross to restore Selby's lead.

Town played with much more attacking fluency thanks to the return of skipper Josh O'Neill and Ash Hope, and Ward seemed to grow in confidence, netting his second after good work from Hope and Hogg.

Brigg had chances of their own towards the end of the half, exploiting gaps in the Selby defence, but keeper Peter Lawrie kept the lead intact.

Lattimore then scored the pick of the goals as he rounded the keeper on the stroke of half-time to effectively put the points in the bag.

Within two minutes of the resumption, the home team pulled one back as they caught the Town defence off guard, Wroot again the scorer.

But Liam Flanagan restored the three-goal cushion as he was gifted possession and, minutes later, Ward completed his first hat-trick for the club following his arrival from Pickering, amid a scramble in the box.

He added another - his fifth in his eighth game for the Robins - before a Lawrie mistake allowed David Dean to pull one back. Dean also completed the scoring on 90 minutes.
