MARCIA are holding pole position after three games in division one of the York John Smith’s Ladies League.

They beat last season's champions Burnholme in their latest match, with Jane Dobson winning the opener for visitors ‘Holme.

Chris Hayward, Joan Hunter and Linda Penrose replied before Lynne Wilstrop closed the gap. However, Marcia captain Faye Hawksby and then pairing Hunter-Penrose secured match points. Hayward hit three ton-pluses in the match.

Tramways were all square with visitors Priory entering the pairs. Clair Cooper-Ellen Platt edged the visitors in front before Natalie Farmeary-Gina Whittaker replied to set up a decider which saw Priory captain Di Moreland combine with Babs Harrison to snatch victory.

Edinburgh Arms were also tied 3-3 with visitors Ox ‘B’ before Julie Stables-Donna Lynes and then Edinburgh colleagues Amanda Bevan-Claire Jamieson secured the win.

Abbie Scott and Linda Staveley had Ox ‘A’ in the driving seat before visitors Leeman ‘B’ hit back hard.

Brenda Dawe, Vicki Capes, Maggie Bedingham and Julie Oliver gave them a 4-2 advantage, and captain Heather Bulmer combined with Tracey Yeomans to secure the match points before Ox cleared up the remaining points.

Nags Head's Vicky Sellers-Doreen Johnstone combined to seal victory at division two rivals Green Tree, whose Jackie Young, Sandra Flintoft and Lisa Russell enabled them to enter the pairs on level terms.

However, Elaine Metcalfe-Sue Tait edged it for Nags before colleagues Johnstone-Sellars won their game.

Severus ‘A’ held the upper hand over their ‘B’ team right from the start as Jackie Simpson, Steph Barker, Carol Robson and Sue Clark gave them a 4-0 advantage. Angir Kaya narrowed the margin but Davina Shannon sealed the match points.

Clifton prospered at Clockhouse despite being a player short. Angela Fletcher, sister Linda and Cris Turgoose got on the scoresheet for the visitors before Sammy Benton pulled one back.

Alice Turgoose and Brenda Kellett secured the match points, with Benton-Lisa Benton grabbing a consolation point for Clockhouse.
