CITY of York Ladies IIs were in superb form at Brigg – recording a fine 3-1 win over their nearest challengers in the Women’s Yorkshire League

premier division.

The visitors began well and, within five minutes, a short corner was awarded and found the back of the goal thanks to Vicky Skilton.

York soon converted two more short corners – one from a superb strike from Annabel Howells-Lee and the other from Lily Rowntree from a move practised on the training ground.

Going into the second half, York were comfortable leaders. However, Brigg responded, creating opportunities and giving York's defence work to do.

Brigg soon pulled a goal back, but some excellent defending from Faith Civico and Frances Livera saw off the hosts' advances.

York failed to convert any of their attacks in the second half but did more than enough to win and retain top spot.

Elsewhere, City of York Ladies IIIs slipped to a 2-0 defeat against a strong Dewsbury line-up.

The York hosts started strongly, but were soon put under pressure from the Dewsbury attack.

Great defensive play by Jenni Fitton, Vicky Thornton and Jacqui Birch kept the opposition out, but the pressure was relentless.

Catherine Whitlock, in goal, made some amazing saves to keep York in the game. However, a short corner routine saw Dewsbury 1-0 in front at half-time.

York kept their heads with player of the match Becky Hall holding the side together in the middle.

After several short corners, a Dewsbury shot was deflected into the air and fired home by the visitors to make the final score 2-0.

York IVs had a depleted squad for their clash with Ben Rhydding IIIs, and were helped out by Tanya Cooper who stepped up from the fifth-team.

They fell behind in the very first minute, but responded well, fending off the opposition's attacks until well into the second half with some excellent play from the injured Ruth Painter.

City continued to defend solidly and had more attacking play in the second half, but were unable to pull a goal back.

A scramble in the D towards the end of the second half saw the ball up behind keeper Bethan Williams – York's player of the match – and slotted into the net by Ben Rhydding to make the final score 3-0.

Both teams started strongly in City of York Ladies Vs' clash with Horsforth.

Player of the match Abi Tugwell stopped several one-on-one shots from the opposition's speedy winger. Horsforth were then awarded a penalty flick, which Tugwell saved to keep the scoreline at 0-0.

However, Horsforth managed to put one away from a break to lead at half-time.

After the break, York came out strongly and peppered the fence with shots. But Horsforth broke away twice to take their lead to 3-0.

Heather MacDonald netted a consolation goal for York from a short corner as the match finished 3-1.
