ENGLAND's test match against Scotland over the last two days in York has proved a winner with fans of indoor bowls.

All seats for the games at New Earswick club on Huntington Road were snapped up and 15 hours of coverage were broadcast live on ITV4.

Club manager Simon Appleton admitted that being chosen to host both the mens' and the womens' tests this last fortnight has given his club 'kudos' around the world of indoor bowls.

He also hopes it will lead to a growth of local interest in the sport and increase membership numbers at New Earswick.

Crowds saw world champion Nick Brett in action for England alongside other leading players such as Rob Paxton and Mervyn King. Scotland's side included world number two Alex Marshall MBE.
