ACOMB are still without a point after four games in the Yorkshire Men’s Hockey League division two.

They lost their latest fixture 2-0 away against Wakefield III this weekend

The Tangerine defence was under early pressure with stand-in Pete Hilton sweeping up well. Acomb conceded a goal to a 10th minute penalty corner but could have equalised when Matt Dickenson fired wide just before half time.

Acomb re-organised for the second period and enjoyed more possession. Simon Theaker and Ryan Smith linked up well on the left with Nick Linfoot wide on the right right.

The game got scrappy, however, and four green cards were issued. Wakefield netted early in the second half to secure a 2-0 victory.

Acomb II notched a 2-0 win against Boston Spa III in division five north.

The Tangerines took an early lead courtesy of a leaping shot over the goalkeeper by Richard Luscombe.

The game flowed well with the Tangerines having good possession during the first half. Skipper Jonny Brown’s astute pass found Acomb man of the match Tom Whitfield who netted well.

Both sides had chances during the second half but home goalkeeper Martin Grainge kept a clean sheet to ensure his side took three points.

Acomb Ladies won 4-1 at Canalside Terriers in the Yorkshire Hockey Women’s league division two.

Kerry Woods scored early on from a short corner and Becci Flower slotted home in open play thanks to a great advantage played by the umpire. Woods made it 3-0 before half time.

The second half saw the home team pressing harder and they pulled a goal back despite great efforts from the Acomb goalkeeper Steph Barker.

A fourth Acomb goal from Hannah Yoward sealed three points for Acomb and a fourth consecutive victory.
