CITY of York II lead the Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League premier division by three points thanks to their latest victory against Chapeltown.

Celia Wright’s goal separated the teams at the interval but York imposed their authority in the second half with Corinne Wray and Lily Rowntree finding the target.

Chapeltown battled hard but goalkeeper Alice Cullen made a number of important saves. Imogen Emmott and Vicky Skilton added further goals to wrap up a 5-1 victory.

In the same division, York III won 3-1 at Harrogate II and moved up to sixth spot.The hosts took the lead but York stepped up their game and great play from Abby Collins and Jenny Beckett set up Jess Hall for an equaliser.

Rebecca Kearney put York back in the lead before Jo Perryman hit the backboard with a magnificent first strike.

York Ladies’ first team, meanwhile, lost 5-0 at Wakefield II and are still without a point at the bottom of the North Hockey Women’s League premier division.

York IV drew 1-1 at Lindum II in the first division. Kate Roberts’ deflected shot gave York a first half lead but Lindum equalised with just eight minutes to go.

York V drew 2-2 against University of Leeds V

York VI lost 4-1 away at University of Leeds VI. Heather Macdonald scored the consolation goal.

York Badgers suffered their first defeat of the season - losing 1-0 in a tightly contested game against Harrogate. Cara Mackay kept the scoreline down with some good defensive kicks whilst player of the match Philip Ellwood and Adam Gilbert made some game saving tackles. Harrogate’s pressure eventually resulted in a goal midway through the second half.

City of York Masters travelled to Wakefield and won 2-0 in the National Over 35s Cup.

Wakefield started strongly but York absorbed the pressure before taking control of the game. Vicky Skilton swept the ball into the back of the net. Wakefield stepped up the pressure but solid play from Lorraine Pearey kept York in control. A great save from goalkeeper Julie Halford kept the scoreline at 1-0 at half time.

Player of the match Jo Perryman kept the ball moving with strong passes to the forwards. York’s perseverance paid off as Annabelle Howells-Lee’s flick found the back of the net.
