YORK College student Callum Johnson followed up his recent victory in the Yorkshire Full Lawn croquet tournament with success in the York Open Short Lawn croquet tournament.
Johnson, 17, who lives in the South Bank area of York, fought off stiff opposition from players who had travelled from Wales, the Midlands, and across Yorkshire. He won nine out of his ten matches, pegged out his opponent each time, and scored a total of 130 hoops out of a possible maximum 140.
Runners up were James Pitt, also a member of York Croquet Club, and Anna Giraud from Huddersfield.
The tournament, held at the York Croquet Club lawns on Scarcroft Road, was managed by Fiona Crompton and Dave Hudson and is set to become an annual fixture in the national croquet calendar.
