NEWLY Promoted Brayton registered their first point of the season thanks to a 3-3 draw at champions Wiggington Grasshoppers in the Fastpack York Sunday Morning League.

Captain Kyle Wilks opened the scoring for Brayton before striker Will Cleary doubled the lead from close range.

Wiggington found a way back through Jamie Willstrop and levelled on the stroke of half-time through Neale Holmes.

Brayton restored their lead when Cleary tapped into an empty net but Tom Metcalfe equalised late on to spare Wigginton’s blushes.

Last year’s runners up Hounds FC took an early two goal advantage at York Nomads but the hosts restored parity through Dan Andrew and a Danny Snaith penalty.

A Dan Andrew header put Nomads ahead before Hounds equalised on the stroke of half-time. Nomads opened the second period brightly and a 40 yarder from Sam Wildwood moved them 4-3 ahead. Joe Dale put the home side two clear before Hounds made it 5-4 with 15 minutes to go. Despite relentless pressure from the visitors, some fantastic saves from goalkeeper Tom Young and committed defending saw the home side take the points. Hounds goalscorers were Chris Jackson (2), Steve Rollinson and Oliver Bloxman.

The NUR got their league campaign underway with an impressive display against Thorpe United. Rob Constable’s quick free-kick opened the scoring before Ben Spencer doubled the advantage with a cross-cum-shot. Gary Stephenson made it 3-0 before Mikey Stannard netted with an audacious flick to increase the advantage. Reece Stronach and Jonathan Lunt netted late on for Thorpe.

Cliffe FC put up early fight against Malt Shovel and took the lead through Tom Collins. However, the visitors took control thanks to a Jack Stocks hat-trick and goals from Harry Brigham, Gary Lumley, Josh Brigham (2), Chris Harkin (2), Chris Coxon and Luke Durham resulting in an 11-1 victory.

Bubwith White Swan suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Marcia Bishopthorpe.

In Division Two, a Russell Carr goal put Knapton Lions ahead before Beeswing scored three quickfire goals. Dan Conway made it 3-2 before Carr hit his second to earn a point.

Haxby United started brightly at Elm Park but fell two behind as Finn Scott scored twice. Skipper Steve Smith increased the advantage. In the second period, goals from Sam Grice and Billy Person made it 5-0 before Jordan Ashby struck a late consolation for Haxby.

Dom Green, Jamie Wilson and Pat Gibbs were on target for Wentworth in a 5-3 defeat at home to Rawcliffe Crusaders.

Alex Renwick and Matthew Fortnam bagged for York Medics as they lost 7-2 to Hambleton.
