HUNTINGTON Rovers extended their lead at the top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division to seven points after ending newly promoted Sporting Knavesmire's 100 per cent record in the top flight.

Chris Dyson scored late in the first half to put Rovers ahead - the striker chasing a long ball that had evaded all of the defenders and heading home.

After the break, Josh Whaite doubled Rovers' lead with a powerful header from a corner.

To their credit, Knavesmire refused to lie down and scored with a cross-cum-shot fifteen minutes from the end to make it 2-1. However, Rovers held on to the lead to claim three all important points.

Wigginton's perfect start came to an abrupt end at Old Malton St Mary's where a professional performance from the home side saw the champions taking all three points.

In a game with very few clear cut chances, Harvey Townley produced a neat finish to a end a sharp team move on the half-hour mark. Marcus Godsell's strike made it 2-0 ten minutes from the end.

A goal from Sam Lingard gave Dringhouses the half-time lead against Brooklyn and further goals from Dave Watson (2) and Sam Drake sealed a comfortable 4-0 victory.

Liam Stilgoe, Ben Jones and Luke Richardson struck for York RI in a 3-0 defeat of Copmanthorpe.

Malton & Norton hit the woodwork no less than seven times against Dunnington but could not force the all-important breakthrough as the visitors won 2-0 thanks to goals from Bradley Swainston and Martyn Day.

Jamie Wheeler found the net for Riccall United but it wasn't enough to gain a point as Sam Shipley and Osbaldwick debutant Danny Penrose fired doubles in a 4-1 win.

In Division One, Poppleton United made it two wins from two with a 4-1 defeat of Rawcliffe, for whom Fraser Shields scored.

Harrison Signs got off to a great start with a 3-0 triumph over Kirkbymoorside. Neil Richardson gave them a 1-0 lead at the break before a Warren Lowe penalty doubled the advantage. Neil Fryers added the third late on.

Craig Allen, Craig Rowden and Luke Zacharenko fired Hemingbrough United to a 3-1 success over local rivals Cliffe with all three goals coming within five minutes of the interval. Dan Collins headed home a consolation for the visitors.

Mo Rahman netted for Heslington as they lost 3-1 at home to York St John.
